Swimming with whale sharks is a highlight when visiting Holbox Island, located northeast of the Yucatán Peninsula. Here, the nutrient-rich waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico converge, attracting vast amounts of plankton and crustaceans—the primary food source of the world’s largest fish, the whale shark. During the season from June 1 to September 15, you can accompany these gentle giants passively as they swim through the ocean, offering an unparalleled experience.

THE TOUR: Whale shark swims are conducted in pairs to avoid disturbing the fish, with guides also seeking out other species like giant manta rays.
