Immerse yourself deep into Mesoamerica’s wild frontier with an unforgettable expedition to Calakmul, a prestigious UNESCO Mixed World Heritage Site tucked inside Latin America’s second-largest tropical rainforest. Easily accessed via daily departures directly from Chetumal and Bacalar, this monumental landmark stands as the ultimate full-day cultural adventure across southern Mexico and the state of Campeche.
Hidden beneath the dense canopy lies the supreme seat of the ancient Snake Kingdom (Kaan Dynasty)—the fierce geopolitical superpower that dominated regional trade and fought epic century-long wars against Tikal. With over 6,000 documented archaeological structures, walk in the footsteps of divine Maya rulers as you ascend Structure II, one of the tallest pyramidal acropolises ever constructed in the pre-Columbian world, rewarding you with infinite 360-degree vistas above the virgin jungle skyline.
The expedition extends far beyond ancient temples into the pristine Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, home to unmatched wildlife biodiversity. Accompanied by native expert guides, your journey follows natural forest trails echoed by the primordial roars of howler monkeys, playful spider monkeys, wild ocellated turkeys, tapirs, and hundreds of tropical bird species thriving in untouched habitats.

Traveling Solo or as a Couple? Join the Group Calendar & Lower the Fare
The main expense for Calakmul is private transportation through the protected biosphere. Our system updates the calendar live with every submission: you can submit the form with or without an upfront deposit to open a new date or join an existing one. The more passengers in the vehicle, the lower the rate for everyone.
Register your preferred date without an upfront mandatory charge; the $500 MXN deposit is only required once your group date is actively forming.
If more travelers join your departure date before the expedition, the rate automatically drops for all passengers onboard.
