Embark on a captivating journey as we head towards the Rio Hondo, passing through the city where you can capture stunning photos of the mega sculpture and other monuments from the sea. Witness Chetumal in a unique light, revealing facets of the city that few have experienced. This approximately 20-minute journey takes us to the mouth of the Rio Hondo.

The Rio Hondo, a natural border between Mexico and Belize with a history spanning over 5 centuries, has served as a vital trade route and an entry point for pirates into the Bacalar Lagoon. This natural canal was used to transport precious woods from the depths of the Mayan jungle. The area boasts a rich marine flora and fauna endemic to the mangrove jungle.

Navigating under the two bridges connecting to the Belize Free Zone, we continue until we reach the convergence of waters connecting the Rio with the Pirate Canal. This canal was historically used by pirates to raid the ancient Bacalar. These waters mark our return to the initial destination, completing a journey filled with history, natural beauty, and cultural significance along the Rio Hondo.
